What are some of the factors that led to your decision to enter the seminary and discern the question of a vocation to the priesthood
Many different factors influenced my decision to enter the Seminary, but the most important ones were the death of my father, which led me to experience God's presence in my life, and the Neocatechumenal Way, which was instrumental in helping me to be open to the will of God and to discover the vocation to the priesthood.
Who are some of the people who influenced your decision to enter the seminary? What is it about them that assisted you?
My pastor, by his way of life, the experience and life of other priests I know, and also my parents and catechists, who helped to see concretely how God has always been present and active in my life.
What would you say is the role of prayer in the life of a seminarian and what effect does it have on one's ability to see God's call?
Prayer is the fuel in the spiritual life of any Christian, especially of a seminarian; it gives strength to the combat against temptations, and helps to be closer to God and to receive the strength necessary to die to one's self and do God's will.
What advice would you give to a man who thinking about his vocation and is considering that God may be calling him to be a priest?
Go to daily mass, look for Confession regularly, pray the rosary daily, pray for discernment, and seek advice and direction from someone wise and holy, maybe your pastor.
What do you like most about being a seminarian?
What I most like about being a seminarian is that I receive a Christian formation for life. We are formed not only to be priests but especially to have an intimate relationship with Christ. It is also a great place to learn more about our faith.
What do you think is the greatest challenge facing a man who is considering the seminary?
I think the greatest challenge for a man considering the priesthood is to accept God's calling and to give up his own plans for his life.
What are some of your hobbies or pastimes? What are some of the things you like to do in your "free" time?
I like to read books, play the guitar, play basketball and soccer.
What are some of your favorite authors/books/movies?
My favorite authors are J. R. R. Tolkien, Douglas Adams and C. S. Lewis. My favorite books are The Lord of the Rings series, the Chronicles of Narnia, Mere Christianity. My favorite movies are the Passion of the Christ, the Dark Knight trilogy, and The Matrix trilogy.
What do you think is the best way to encourage vocations to the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Boston?
Priests should encourage young men from their parishes to consider the vocation to the Priesthood, and invite those whom they think might have a calling to discernment retreats. Through the New Evangelization, new vocations can also be fostered.
