What are some of the factors that led to your decision to enter the seminary and discern the question of a vocation to the priesthood?
My faith in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit has guided me throughout my life and the Trinity has been watching over me through so many personal and challenging moments. My personal and professional experience in the Church has been preparing me for this time in my life and I answered a calling to serve.
Who are some of the people who influenced your decision to enter the seminary? What is it about them that assisted you?
My Pastor Father Fitzgerald and Sister Angela both were the role models I had over the last 20 years that both educated and inspired me to see that the religious life is so fulfilling and helpful to others and to go about living with God in joy. I also was influenced by the brothers at St Joseph’s Abbey… a place and community truly inspired by the Holy Spirit.
What would you say is the role of prayer in the life of a seminarian and what effect does it have on one's ability to see God's call?
Prayer is probably the single most important aspect of a person’s life whether in the clergy or in the secular world. Prayer helps a person to focus, to trust in God’s love, to be guided by the hand of Christ and to be reassured that we are bound together as one people under God by the Holy Spirit. Once a person realizes how important communication with the Holy Trinity is…well that’s a great day!
What advice would you give to a man who thinking about his vocation and is considering that God may be calling him to be a priest?
Go on retreat, talk to your pastor, talk to a vocation director in your diocese and mostly, be in the presence of God and open your heart to the possibility of a blessed life of service in the name of Christ.
What do you like most about being a seminarian?
The spiritual food I get each day when I hear the sermons in mass and listen to lectures in class. All of our spiritual fathers and faculty are brilliant and they are probably the most generous people I have ever known.
What do you think is the greatest challenge facing a man who is considering the seminary?
Indecision and fear.
What are some of your hobbies or pastimes? What are some of the things you like to do in your "free" time?
Playing music for services, walks in the neighborhood, socializing with other seminarians…by the way, there isn’t lots of free time … we lead a blessed, full life.

Communication… Communication… Communication!
